Track 4Communique (Title Track)

3 pm. After the excitement of the previous song, this song pulls back slightly into something more realistic. You can’t always be full of energy and euphoric like “where do you think you’re going”, but you can always be in a good mood. This song is definitely a good mood.

This song is where Mark Knopfler starts to take over. You can easily hear the confidence in his voice in this track, and its impressive. He drives the energy of the song with a catchy and upbeat guitar lead that almost sounds familiar although im not sure why this is.

If the previous song was out on the sailboat, cruising through the ocean, this song returns to the streets of our coastal town. You’re walking on the main road overlooking the bay, passing beachy shops and cafes with people milling about. You see a few bikes propped up against a wall as you pass, and some seagulls fly over the street on their way to annoy people at the beach.

This whole song feels lively and happy, and I think this can be attributed to the bright guitar and the very, very rhythmic bass/drums. Add in his confident singing style, and the whole song just feels alive.

I have a firm belief that during the recording of this song, the band were just completely enjoying themselves. I think this is why its song 4, the middle of the album and therefore the middle of the day. Its also the title track so the whole album is a reflection of this song. It’s the pleasure and feeling of that perfect summer afternoon.
